Ottawa - The Manx is one of these hole-in-the-wall restaurant. Walking north on Elgin St., you won't even notice the sign hidden behind the tall trees nor the few steps that lead down to the restaurant. The Manx is definitely a hidden gem - generous portions of food at an affordable price.

We started the meal with the spicy crab cakes - light and flaky with a prominent middle-eastern and crab flavour. Definitely a good appetizer to start off the meal.

The portions of the main dishes are large, more than you pay for. The pork chop is cooked to perfection, moist with a hint of sweetness. The arugula salad is fresh with the right amount of dressing to provide a sweet and tangy taste. The braised short ribs are a must order - succulent and fork tender. The spinach salad with the preserved lemon dressing helps cut down the heaviness of the dish.

The food is surprisingly tasty for a pub. No wonder why it is popular among the locals. This place tends to be packed as early as 6pm, arrive early.
